My girlfriends and I spent the weekend in and around the Washington, DC area. We attended a Christian poetry conference for two days with the likes of Joseph Solomon, Leah James and Jonathan McReynolds. God moved in that place, mmkay? When I was choosing my outfits for this weekend, I prayed asking God, “Lord, allow me to use the clothes I already have and create new outfits from them.” Well I’m glad I said that prayer because He did exactly that! This simple ask from Him taught me a valuable lesson: there is not a detail about our lives that is too insignificant for Him. I consider myself a tall woman (5’7) and most things that are appropriate on shorter women, is a bit too small for me. I’m happy God was able to detail an outfit specifically for the weather and my body type yet not allowing me to be viewed as a stumbling block because of my long legs. Ain’t He good?
I opted for all white outfit for brunch which included a peplum top and a pair of cuffed shorts. I wanted to walk around the city of Baltimore in my metallic sandals but once I saw all my friends wearing their heels I said to myself, “No Ma’am!” I decided to wear my nudish-pink lace up sandals with a gold, translucent block heel.(Sidenote – Block heels are super on trend this summer and they can make you feel cute but not overly dressed). I’m realizing I’m turning into a girly girl so I paired the all white outfit with a set of multi-colored, beaded earrings and my gold watch.
My style motto: simple, yet impactful.
Yelp is the truth! As I was waiting for the girls to get ready, I hopped on Yelp to look for a cute, delicious spot to have brunch. I craved a cocktail and anything I could put syrup on. I found Miss Shirley’s Café and the reviews and pictures were impossible to reject. As long as everyone agreed, we were in the clear to go and we did! *Dances*
Miss Shirley’s Café is located on the Baltimore Harbor and in the warmer months, has a beautiful city view! My suggestion is to get there early or brunch with someone who has great conversation because you will be waiting a while to be seated. The plus on waiting is they have a “To Go” counter and you can order a drink while you’re waiting. Once we did sit down, I ordered a Miss Shirley’s Crush Cocktail (a lil orange juice,a lil vodka,a lot delicious) and the Benne Seed Chicken n Waffles. Let me tell you right now, this was the best chicken and waffles I’ve ever had! The waffle was a green onion cheddar waffle with a honey mustard aioli. *Insert Countess Vaughn Meme* Talk about foodgasm! I can’t wait to visit Baltimore again so I can eat this.
After brunch, my friends and I pretty much headed home for the weekend. Girl’s Trip = Success.
