Hello, beauties! It has been incredibly long! When I decided to come back to my site and add content, I knew that I would get questions on where I’ve been! Trust me girls, I’ve gotten my butt handed to me these past few months about not uploading! Well, I apologize and I am back! Let’s go!
As a curly girl, I am constantly on the hunt for products that help with my fine, yet coarse, curly hair. I typically only straighten my hair once a month in the cooler months and I wear my curly hair more often in the summer. About a month ago I knew I wanted to wear a wash-n-go, a style I have not worn since last summer. I stopped by my local Walgreens and picked up a few products to try for the first time. I picked up the Cleansing Conditioner, the Alcohol-Free gel and the Refresher spray. Luckily for me, I had the styling pudding in my stash at home. All products will be listed in the order in which I used them.
This does exactly what it says. It gives my hair slip in which I can detangle but cleanses my scalp extremely well. This product does not need to be used in conjunction with a shampoo. What I would recommend is shampooing every few washes based on how often you wash your hair. Using this cleansing conditioner, I do not have build up and I am able to rinse out all previous residue. I also love that this product has a pump! I would recommend this product to all naturals and I would have to rate this product a hit!
When I purchased this product, I originally used it for braid and twist outs. Considering I don’t like those styles on my hair anymore, I used this product for my wash-n-go. Bad move, sista’. This product for a wash-n-go is too heavy for my fine hair and leaves a white film on my hair as I try to stretch my wash-n-gos. The product is not moisturizing enough for me and should be layered with an oil. I would not repurchase the product but since I have so much of it left,I have been mixing it with other products to retain my moisture. This is a miss for me!
“My curls can have shine and definition without sacrificing the feel of soft hair.”
Alcohol – Free Gel
Alcohol – Free Gel is so important to a Naturalista. We work incredibly hard to maintain moisture in our hair and the very last thing we need is for any product to dry out our hard work. I love that Carol’s Daughter made this product without alcohol; my curls love you for it! I use this product after the styling pudding. I squeeze a glob in my hand and in sections, I do the “praying hands” method to distribute the product. This product defines with a medium hold. My curls can have shine and definition without sacrificing the feel of soft hair. The cons about this product is that I wish the bottle was bigger. I can go through about 3 wash-n-gos and the bottle is practically empty. I also wish that this had some sort of pump for easy dispense. Overall, this product is a hit for me! I am currently on my second bottle.
Refresher Sprays are commonly used to “wake up” your hair on day 2 or 3 of your wash-n-go (or day 5 if you’re me). Our hair can come become flat or our curls can lose it’s definition based on how long we’re stretching our style. This refresher spray can be used once your hair is taken out of its nightly protective style to revive the curls. My hair did not respond well to this product. Used alone, this product is not enough to revive my curls. On it’s own, it causes my hair to become frizzy with little to no definition. When used with a small amount of gel, it works ok. My recommendation is using a spray bottle with just water. There is no need to spend the extra amount of money for a product that is not necessary. This product is a miss for me.
